There are many ways and places you can get or purchase an animal:
  • Pet stores
  • Breeders
  • Ads online
  • Newspaper
When getting a new pet you want to be sure they are coming from  home where the parents have been well cared for and not overbred.  Many times pet stores obtain their dogs from puppy mills.  The same can be said for cats, birds and other small animals.  There are also breeders that keep their animals confined to small kennels or crates and are not socialized, handled or loved.  They many times never set foot outside their cage, never run or play in the grass, never feel the sun or freshness of outdoors.  These people breed only for money.  These are place you do not want to get a pet from.
When you adopt from a shelter you can be sure the pet has been examined by a veterinarian, has been altered, vaccinated and checked for behavior issues to the best of the staffs ability.  You will be given as much information as possible to be sure that you and your potential new pet are a good match.  At WCAHS you are guaranteed a time period of two weeks to be sure your new pet is a good fit for you.  If for any reason it does not work out within those first two weeks you can return the pet and have your adoption fee refunded or look at another pet should there be one you are interested in.  We will also take the pet back at anytime should a problem ever arise, in fact, it is written right in the adoption contract.  There is no better feeling than adopting a pet from a humane society and knowing that you will be giving it a wonderful, new home!  You also know that you are not contributing to the ongoing suffering that animals endure in “puppy mills” when buying a pet from a pet store or disreputable breeder.

Thank you for giving a homeless animal a second chance to have a happy new life!
